Avinox continues to shake up the electric mountain bike market. Following the strong debut of their first motor, the M1, the company presents the next step – the M2 and M2S, which raise the bar even higher in terms of both power and technology.
With its very first product, the brand showed that it is not afraid to break established standards and stand against the competition. Now, the new models reinforce this strategy with even higher performance and a number of improvements.
Power
For electric bicycles, "full power" is usually considered to be around 600 W and 85 to 100 Nm. In this context, the new motors from Avinox seem downright extreme.
- The M2 reaches up to 1100 W and 125 Nm
- M2S offers 1300 W and 130 Nm continuous output
- In short Boost mode, M2S can reach up to 1500 W and 150 Nm
For comparison, the well-known Bosch CX offers around 750 W peak power and 100 Nm torque – values that often coincide with the legal limits in many countries.
Technical specifications overview
The new drivetrains come with a range of improvements:
- several support modes: Eco, Auto, Trail, Turbo, and Boost
- more compact battery with a 700 Wh capacity
- additional options: 600 Wh and 800 Wh
- touchscreen display with navigation capability
- lower resistance and quieter operation compared to the previous generation
Balance between power and weight
Despite the increased performance, the weight remains within reasonable limits:
- M2 – 2.65 kg
- M2S – 2.59 kg
This makes them slightly heavier than the M1 (2.52 kg), but still lighter than some competitors in the class.
How is the efficiency improved
The higher power comes thanks to changes in the motor's construction:
- At M2, larger coils are used
- with M2S – flat cables instead of standard ones
This leads to better efficiency:
- M1 – 82%
- M2 – 83%
- M2S – up to 84.5%
In practice, this means better use of the battery's energy. However, at maximum load, the efficiency decreases – something typical for such systems.
Quieter and smoother operation
One of the key aspects of electric motors is the noise, especially when descending.
